This post is by one of my good friends and mentors, Dennis Becker. Since beginning my journey to self-employment I credit him and his forum a large part of my success. They are like my ‘home away from home’ on the Internet, and every person in the Earn1kaday forum is a gem. I hope you enjoy the post!
One of the things that I love doing is encouraging beginning Internet marketers to reach whatever level of income they need to make a difference in their lives.
For some it’s only a few hundred dollars a month to make the car payment or pay down the credit cards. For others, it’s a couple thousand a month so that they can stay home with the kids rather than send them off to day care while mommy goes to work.
And for others it’s substantially more so that they can finally quit the full time job and be in control of their lives.
Many people get the idea that it’s easy to make big bucks from their computer. Many others think that you can’t do it unless you’re either a scammer or a spammer.
Both groups are wrong, dead wrong.
I had my tough days (years, actually, 3 years!) getting to where I’m comfortable, and I’ve seen others take longer. The encouraging part is, yes it’s possible to succeed and earn a good full time income working from your home computer. And it doesn’t need to take that long if you follow someone that you can trust.
When I was struggling, I wish I knew then what I know now (you’ve heard that before, right?), so I’d like to share with you one key tip that will give you a shortcut, so that you won’t have to take 3 years like I did.
Are you ready?
Above all else, develop your writing skills.
Don’t worry about tricks. Don’t fall prey to people selling $2000 courses that will magically help you earn 6 figures overnight. Forget all that. Those are the scammers.
Internet marketers love to say “content is king”, and it’s true. Did you ever count all the words that are on the Internet? Impossible, and growing at an astounding number every minute.
Here’s something obvious … someone has to write that content. It isn’t an infinite number of monkeys sitting at an infinite number of keywords (though some of the content seems like it could have been).
If you can write quality content, you can succeed. Period. End of conversation.
Look at all the articles on places like ezinearticles.com. Many of those articles are earning their writers money every day. Many of the article writers have written thousands of articles.
There are also many thousands of people who are looking for people to write for them, because they either don’t have a grasp of the English language or they don’t have time or the confidence to write their own content.
People like my friend Cori have come a long way by being willing to write articles and reports and eBooks and sales letters for other people.
And many of those people take the next logical step, by learning how to leverage their own content for their own profit, rather than someone else’s.
If you’re writing for someone else, you may have to start at a rate of about a penny a word for a while, but if you work at it, it won’t be long before you’re making a whole lot more. Repeat: a whole lot more.
Here’s a final word of encouragement: You don’t need to go to college and major in journalism. If you can talk on the phone, that means you can communicate. If you can communicate, you can write.
If you can write and pick up some basic research skills (like searching for information on Google), you can earn at least a few hundred dollars a month. And if you can earn a few hundred dollars a month for a while, and pick up customers that love what you do, before long you can be making a good living working from home at your computer, in your pajamas, if you want to.
